Can't edit video from DVD... HELP!

Okay guys, I used DVD Decrypter to get footage off of my DVD's onto the computer. It worked and they look clear and everything... but I can't import them into my video editors (Sony Vegas and WMM) to edit. So I guess theres no way to do this?

Is it possible to get footage off of a DVD onto a camcorder, then capture in the footage on your computer and edit? I appreciate all the help and I don't mean to sound rude but I can't seem to get a clear answer to this question. A "Yes" or "No" would be appreciated. I use to capture footage onto my camcorder from my VHS tapes and was wondering if it would work with DVD? Thanks.

Hi Davy ,I just tried this to refresh my memory.Using win xp and vegas 6,I copied one of the .vob files off of a DVD I made onto my hard drive, and imported that directly into vegas, and it was ready for editing. Now vegas media import was set to all media types and did not recognize the .vob until I set it to look for all *.* files
The .vob file is supposed to be a mpeg file type you could even change the .vob extension to .mpg but I didn't even need to do that.
That brings up the next subject, when I loaded vegas 6 in order to work with mpeg files I had to load mainconcept mpeg encoder,so I'm not sure what version of vegas your using,or if you need to do that step with a newer version or not.

I'm using Sony Vegas 9... and I don't understand how to do what you said. I get the feeling if I encode or convert it then the quality will go down... yeah really startin' to think that DVD to camcorder is the way to go here... if thats possible.

I drop vobs into Sony Vegas all the time. What I think DTM is talking about is when the browser comes up, where you are selecting the file to add, you have to change it to look for all file types.

Silly Rabbits right,I was trying to take you thru the steps I did and got you confused.Explore your DVD it should have a video_ts folder, open that, your main video files should be there with the extension .vob, you should be able to double click on them and preview them in media player, just to see which file's you want. These are the raw mpg files and the best quality your going to get doing it this way.Copy the .vob's you want to your hard drive, then you can import them into vegas. This is the most direct way and dosen't alter whatever quality is originally on your dvd.

Oh okay, I tried dragging and dropping the VOB files into Vegas and it works like a charm. I discovered that you don't even need DVD Decrypter for this. Just open up the files on your DVD and drag and drop right off the disc onto Vegas.

Thanks very much to everyone that helped me out on this. Sorry for all the threads... and sorry for being an annoying moron lol.

Glad to hear that Davy, the only reason I added the step of copying the dvd video files to your hard drive is your computers dvd player may not be fast enough to keep up when you start the editing and encoding. You may even get a message from vegas about that.
